Inquiries were made by the White Star line for berthing accommodation for steamers with a length of 1675 ft and a draught of 35ft, which the company is building for the Australian trade.' The company is informed that there is ample water for such steamers, and that the building of a 1000 ft pier for mammoth liners is well in band. MOTOR TRAINS' TRIALS. The defeated Labour candidate' for the Logan electorate admitted that the strike had done the cause a lot of harm. WELL OFF FOR MINISTERS. SYDNEY, May 3. Mr. J. H. Cann (member for Broken Hill') has been appointed State Treasurer. The three representatives of the Barrier are new Ministers, Mr. A. Griffiths being State Minister for Public Works, and Mr. Josiah Thomas Federal Minister for Home Affairs. SOME GAS FOR WILLIS. SYDNEY, May 3. The Speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly (Mt. Willis) has received through the post a package containing a cartridge similar to those used in sparklet syphons. A letter accompanying the parcel 1 stated that it contained an explosive bomb. THE SUGAR COMMISSION. MELBOURNE, May 3. The Prime Minister (Mr. Fisher) declares that the Federal Government will support Sir John Gordon (chairman of the Sugar Commission) in any action to test the legality of the position adopted by the officials of the Colonial Sugar Company in refusing to attend to give evidence before the Commission.
