His first association with the present buildings was in 1871, when he came down from Auckland in attendance on Sir George Bowen, the then Governor, *nd at a later period he wae in charge - for a short period when Sir Arthur Gordon wae Governor. Now, by a etrange coincidence, on the eeene of bi« earlier duties he was in charge of the building which wss to b« replaced by the new one.
