— I A shipment of scheel'ite has been made at Port Chalmers for transport to the London market. This product is valued at anything from £bo to £120 per ton. The principal schceliie miues in tho Dominion are situated at the head of Lake Wakatipu, not very far from Queenstown, South Otago. The substance is used in tempering steel, and is found in only one or two countries in the world. America is the. chief producer, but even there the supply is limited. A large number of men earn a livelihood in Otago during the summer months searching for the pre- i cious substance. In the winter, however, such work is impracticable owing to the , intense cold. j The advice given by the Dunccan S.M. to a defendant should be borne in mind. "In law you should keep receipts for six years." Tho defendant in a civil case said 4fc had always been under the impression that it was only necessary to keep the last receipt to prove payment of previous claims. He admitted, however, that the receipts which h<> produced were incomplete in regard to all his dealings. Th.' famous Kosryn -writing pads always in stock. Smith and Cangbey Ltd. —(Ad.)
