THS STOAT Or THE VOTAGE. nrrxsiMt to attack hokth pole. (Received 9.30 a-m.) HOB ART. this day. Amundsen is still reticent. He stated, however, that when he left Buenon Ayres he weilt straight south to the ice. where, on January 13 last year, he met Captain Scott's ship, the Terra. Nova, in the Bay of Whales. He made his base camp on the great ice barrier in longitude 164 -west, latitude "8 south, where he remained with nine men while the Fram returned to Buenos Ayres. Of the work of the camp he resolutely refused to speak, and when the Role was mentioned he became dumb. He declined even to say on what date he left the camp for Hobart, though he remarked that the Fram enjoyed good weather on the passage. Apparently Captain Amundsen had not returned to the Fram on January 16, when Captain Xeilsen met the Japanese expedition, which had reached the ice barriei. Captain Amundsen said he did not see the Japanese, and knew nothing of their position or plans. Asked as to his future plans, he said that he intends to stay for a few days in Hobart, and will then go to Buenos Ayres, thence around Cape Horn to San Francisco, and up through Behring Straits to trv and follow his original plan of drifting across the Arctic with the ice, coming out between Greenland and Spitbergen. Captain Amundsen is the only member of the expedition who has landedThe Press representatives visited the Fram. but were not allowed on board oi to engage in conversation -with the crew. Captain Amundsen regrets that he is unable to give information in view of the kindness received, but his engagements made it utterly impossible. As soon as he can he will show his charts and give the fullest information. He took 103 Greenland sledges and dogs, and brought back only 39. The Norwegian Consul at Sydney has received no information from Captaia Amundsen, and expects none.
