AUCKLAND BROTHERHOOD P.S.A.

There was a good attendance yesterday afternoon in the Opera House, special interest attaching to the visit oi Sir John Kirk (a vice-president of the National .Council ot Brotherhoods, England), and to the fact that Grafton-road choir, winners of the recent competitions., were rendering a musical programme. The acting-president (Bro. J. Lock), in a few well-chosen remarks, welcomed Bro. Sir John JCirk, and called upon the meeting to accord him a royal welcome, which was responded to with enthusiasm. Sir John, replying,. stated that he was glad to find a tie of brotherhood, which extended right round the world; and as he represented more than 600,000 men in England, he felt the work was of God, and also that in its principles the Fatherhood of Ocxi, and elder brotherhood of Jesus Christ was a vital part. He then reviewed the origin and growth of the movement in the Old Land, and showed how the work was essentially a men% work, lor tbe uplift and help of the highest and best things in men's lives to cover every portion of life—religious, social, and commercial as well. In the work affecting the children, in connection with thai in which he was more particularly engaged, he was giad the brotherhood movement had helped and done much for the sick and lame in the various cities o£ the Home Land, and he trusted tha,t as the movement grew in this new land, brotherhood men would always stand to help the weak and helpless children. Grafton-road choir rendered a fine programme of choruses and solos, for which they received unstinted applause from the audience, and Sir John expressed his pleasure and congratulated them upon the distinguished position they held. Greetings from Liverpool! Federation, also from Birmingham j Federation, and the premier society of' New South Wales were tendered to the meeting.
