ALLEGED LOCK-OUT.
OF THIRTEEN' TAILORESSES. A case o! alleged boycott is engaging the attention of the Auckland TaiFbrcsacs' Union at the present time. The cirfumst.".n«s appear to have been that in one of tbe faetoricsin the city, where about 3D taijoresses were employed, there .were four girls who did not meet with the approval of the rest of the workers. A round-robin, signed by 25 of the employee.-:, was presented to the manager, asking that the alleged undesirables be removed. This was followed up by personal interviews with the employer, but he refused to dismiss the four, and the protesting' 2.3 thereupon gave 24 hoars' notice and ceased work. This was two or three weeks ago, and it is thought to be significant •iiat, although there was plenty of work in the town at that time, these young women were unable to find work. Twelve of them. returned to work with their old employer (and their four ex-companions), but thirteen stayed out. The union, it is understood, is not in a position to prove an3"thing. but is led to believe that something in the nature of a lockout has been put into operation. Though it was reported this morning that the young woman had now all l>een placed in situations, they were out of work for a fortnight, and the union, on the ground tiiat the concerned held ont for a principle, will consider the question of making tin to them' the amount of wtveres they have lost. The anion will also take into consideration the question of taking action against the various employers who were responsible for what, it is contended, was virtually a lockout.
