December 15. !Mr. Asquith, in the course of a reply io the National League deputation, said if a referendum of men alone were taken yomen would resent the verdict. Personally he was convinced that the franchise for women would bo a mistake of a very disastrous kind. He felt that it was time that those holding strong views should take off their coats and put the case against the suffrage cogently before the public.
