ONE REMAINS TO SEE THE OTHER SETTLED. An extraordinary case of bigamy was described to Mr Justice Channel] at Chester Assizes on October 23. The prosecuting counsel said the prisoner, John Iveson, of Birkenhead, alleged that his wife told him that they were not legally married, and advised him to look oat for another woman. He married a woman he met at Manchester. She stocked a confectioner's shop at Birkenhead, and his first wife remained with them for a month as housekeeper, being called Miss Atkinson. Then she disappeared. The prisoner said bis first wife would not stop with ltim. The Judge: She stayed a month after you were married?— Yes, to see we were comfortable. Sentence of three months In the second division was passed.
