BIG CITY CONTRACTS.
CONSIDERED BY TBE COTJNCJJi The City Council, at its first meeting last night in the new Town Hall, dealt with a number of tenders fee large municipal contraota, Hw tenders for supply of east-iron water mains, etc, were referred to the Electric end Walter Committee. They are: Wingate and Co., Mason, Struthers, £56,976; Jno. Bunts and 00., £55,777; and Briscoe and Co, £56,082; with an alternative tender from the last-named for cast-iron and steel combined of £50,068. The estimates are £55,700 for cast-iron, mod £48,700 for cast-iron and steei ownbined. ._ The tender of Seager Bros, for coal bunkers and water tonics et the new power-station was accepted, the -■■»■■■»'-' being £2560. The only other tender MM that of G. Fraser and Sod, for £2658. The engineer, reporting on the. tenders for vacuum-cleaner for file Town Hall, recommended that the Maohtaery; Exchange be asked to instal one chanee at the price quoted for three ( £45), and that if it should prove unsatisfactory it should be removed, no payment being made. The Council adopted She recommendation. Mr. George NkScrrt's tender of £5884; for ihß erection of swimming; baths at Shelly Beach was accepted.
