THE GRAMMAR SCHOOL SITE.
TEE HEADiIASTER'S APPRECIATION AMD A LITTLE TUNNEL JOKE.
Mr. J. H. Tibbs thus exfreaes his appreciation of the Auckland Grammar School Site Act at the break-up ceremony last night:— "October 19 should be a red-letter day an the calendar of the school, the day ou which the Auckland Grammar School Sice Act passed the General Assembly. I wish to express the thanks of the school to ail those members of the Legislature who interested themselves in the parsing of the Act, and especially to the Hon. -Mr. Fowlds and Sir John Findiay, to whom mainly, as Ministers of Education and Justice, the sdsooi owes the superb site which has been granted to it. I rejor/ce to hear that the board is already taking preliminary 6teps towards "the preparation of the ground. I rtvognise that many years must elapse beiore the fourteen acxeo are levelled into the great playing field of the school of the future. But, when, once we are established there, the work "will proceed gradually: and, meanwhile, we shall be near the i>omain, and cricket and football will go on under much easier conditions than at present. The sdte is near the centre of residential Auckland, and about midway between the two railway stations; which fact leads me to observe that I shall be spared much worry when ,the boys have ceased to be connected <with the inner history of the Parnell tunnel." (Laughter and applause.)
