BIG LAND BALLOT.
A RUSH of Applicants.
The Auckland Land Board has just completed a ballot of 17,732 acres of Crown lands within the district, on renewable lease and optional tenure. In all there were 4oQ applicants for the sections, and the fact that the number of applicants for each section generally numbered six or seven, and in cases went to over 30, showed the demand that exists in the province for land. As the result of the preliminary examination a large number of the applicants were excluded because they did not come as landless applicants, while others were put out on account of not complying with the necessary formalities.
