MINE MAXAGEKS' REPOBTS. Walotnhi. —The annual boiler inspection being completed, work was resumed iu the mine lust Wednesday, and when breaking down the cross reef on Friday colours of gold were seen. Another quartz formation, from G Co H inches in width, has come In, running east and west, or at right -angles to the cross reef. It Is carrying favourable mineral indications, and on Saturday some good colours of gold were seen. It also carries a clay seam wjth it, which has displaced the cross reef, but to what extent H is yet hard to say, until further work Is done. fi-ood Hope.-—The reef Is now 18 Inches wide, and looks very promising. It is highly mineralised, and good colours of gold are occasionally seen through the ore. The country rock Is still of a very favourable description for gold, and more water Is Issuing from the face. All .the quarts is being saved for treatment Wuihl.—The report covering the operation? In the mine for the four-weekly nerlod ended 30th Inst-, states that at No lOlevel the. north, crosscut from No. 5 shaft Is In 814 ft. AfteT passing through the Empire lode country »» penetrated for 6ft, when n further ore body was met wbicl) proved to be 10ft In width and worth £1 is/6 per ton. This appears to be a branch reef of the Empire lode. The following sample results were obtained from the Empire lode from sft across the seeC, with country showing on south side; At I,oft, f2 19/3 per ton; 20ft £2 8/9-; and at 30ft, XI 3/7. At No. 9 level, the Reptile, spnth-east crosscut, is along 1028 ft from the Eoyal lode. Several >m oii strinmm at gaarta Jhsre been passed.

through. The Royal lode, west of No. 5 shaft crosscut, proved to be 20ft wide. It was sampled iu four equal sections, measuring from tie south wail with the loiiowuig results:— First section, worth £2 T/JO per tou; second section, £1 10/2; third section, 11/11; aud fourth section, iy/1. Boa pass sunk 17ft, mating a. total of 112tt. A sample from aft across tire reef at llOtt dowu gave an assay result of 10/2 per ton. lu thP Empire lode the east drive is aloats OSOft from No. 4 shaft crosscut. Five feet of ore is exposed iu the face, with the norUr wall seen. Assays are as follows: — At 027 ft, worth £1 7/tt per ton, reef Ift wide; at 637 ft, worth £2 17/5, reef 2ft wide; at tHTf t, worth £1 5/, south wall only showing; and at 657 ft, worth U/10, south wall ou/y showing. The Alexandra lode at .jOIt gave 2/H per ton. The toward lode, souiu drive, was advanced from UlUlt to 663 ft i" ore which is evidently the Royal reef. 'lhe full width at 600 ft Is sft, worth 5/5 per ton. .New Waiula.—iu No. 2 winze, from no 5 level, tnere appeared to be a body of quartz iu the haugmgwall, in shooting into which a large ore bouy composed of stringers aud bauds of quartz was discovered, some of tuls stone showed streaks of coa.se guld and all, with the exception of the bands of mullock between, prospects payably and regularly. This is immediately under what was known as the "big slope" block above No. 5 level, and gave the old company handsome returns, the reef being with them up to lift wide. T'-e new reel intersected iu the uorth drive, low level. Is "P to Ift wide, well defined In a splendid channel or country, and is within a few degrees ol being on the usual course-* of the No. 3 New Waitala main lode. it looks well, and shows scams of due gold. An assay made of stone, which showed no visible gold, obtained in cutting through the reef, and which gave only a few colours of gold in tne dish, returned £lO per ton by assay, the gold being of good quality and carrying a very small percentage of silver. the pleasing feature about this is that the gold is being got right under what proved to be a barren zone hi No. 5 level. llaudsworth United.—The drive off ."e winze iu llaudsworth level has been carried along bft, the lead looking stronger The country Is good, being similar to that worked in the level above. The Otama drive has been greatly improved by cuttine off corners and enlarging. As soon as "the line is repaired this will soon pa} for Itself aud allow of speedier work wltu larger trucks. The one slope being beaten along during the week is producing fairly { good ore. . , . ~, i Waltangi Consolidated.-Tho level Is in 2876 feet. The country continues to 100K well, and two or three nice-looLlug era ' were cut, from three to six Inches In wWttl, carrying some favourable minerals, but -io gold is risible. There is still a big flow if water from tie face. In the winze tire water is siukins slowly. Kuranui.—No. 2 leader north, at the battery level, measures three iu<-lies. and is heavily mineralised. It still shows a little gold. North at the surfr.ee level, the Oddfellows' leader has been slightly dtetnrbed by a break. This leader has shown a lltt'e cold for 140 feet, and as there is a large block of ground overtead, the manager Intends to put up a rise to ascertain Its value. There are 120 feet of backs to the surface.
