WAIHI ACCIDENTS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. A peculiar aeident occurred in the Grand Junction mine yesterday afternoon during a change of shifts, whereby four men were injured, cne severely. A cage containing five miners (J. Anderson, H. Young, 12. SsiLi bury, T. Henderson. and Dale) was being lowered to No. 5 level, and when within about 16 or 20 feet of the level it suddenly dropped. All the occupants of the cage with the exception of Dale were badly shaken.

Anderson received severe injury, principally to one of his legs, and he was removed in the ambulance to the hospital. Young suffered from the shock of the fall, and Sainsbury and Henderson received certain injuries.

The cause of the cage falling will no doubt be subject of a private inquiry.

It is understood that the accident to the cage was caused by something going wrong with the eleetricc cables which supply the motive power to the electric winder installed at the main shaft. Another accident occurred in the same mine last night. A..miner named. Allan Lucas had his collarbone broken by a fall of stone in the stopes.
