PURIFYING PICTURE SHOWS.
' LETTER FROM RANGIORA. AUCKLAND SHOWS SATISFACTORY, A letter was read at the Grey Lynn Borough Council last night from Rangiora Council in respect to the censorship of picture shows. The letter stated that recently three films had been shown which were decidedly objectionable, .and Grey Lynn was asked to co-operate in asking the Government to establish, some censorship of picture shows. The Mayor (Mr. W. Murray) said he did not often go to picture shows, but must admit that when he had done so, there was never anything shown of an objectionable nature. Mr. T. L. Thompson confirmed the .Mayor's statement, and 'thought a reply) should be' sent accordingly. Mr. J. W. Tattersfield said because nothing objectionable was shown ; in Auckland, that was no reason why _ Kan* giora should not be aided in getting a censorship established, sCeing what had occurred there. He moved that the Council express its willingness to co* operate in the matter. _ Mr. F. Brinsden said if they were going to take in hand the stopping of undesirable pictures beiiig shown, they had better make a start with some of the shops in Karangalrape-road. Mr. G. J. Garland said ho had not been to picture shows more than about half-a-dozen times. He had never seen anything objectionable at the shows he had been to. He could tell the Council, however, that as Chairman of the Board of Education it was in 'the Minister's head to start a censorship of picture .shows. Mr. Garland, in conclusion, seconded Mr* Tattersfield's motion, which was adopted
