FLOWER SHOW.

ST. LUKE'S, REMTJERA. A very successful flower show, held tinker the auspices of the St. Luke's lilies' Guild, •was opened at >St. Luke's Hall, Remuera, this afternoon by the Mayoress (Mrs. C. J. PaTr), who, after performing the opening ceremony, was :he recipient of a handsome bouquet, Landed to her by Miss Marjory Allen. The show, which is thoroughly amateur, reflects credit on the Ladies' Guild, and particularly on the honorary secretary (Mrs. Robert Hood), and her assistant, Mts. Parker. The hall was tastefully decorated with flags, and the exhibits totalled over three hundted vases. ■From a horticultural point of view interest centred round the class devoted to the competition for twelve vases of faring flowers, and a particularly good: showing was made by Mr. Chrpman, and another by Miss Parker. The showing of anemones was rather poor on the whole, Jmt this was profeably brought about by the recent dearth of rain. A big display was made of daffodils, and some fine varieties had to be judged. The j children took a keen interest in the ] competition for decoraited tables, and although the number was not a3 large b« it might have been, great care was displayed in the arrangement of the! t .vbles. j A refreshment-room, under the caTe of Miss Henderson and Mrs. Smethurst, was 1-astefully arranged, while the flower, stall, under the care of Miss Parker, and! tlje produce stall, with Miss Stevenson' ami attendants in charge, did good busi-| D.w throughout the afternoon. Flip show will continue open this evening, when an excellent musical procramme has been arranged. The following is the list of awards:— liome Industry Section.—Jam gandrichds: Miss Stevenson 1, Miss C. Galhiway 2. Scones: Mrs. Dempsey 1, Miss Henderson 2. Sponge cake: Mrs. Dempsey and Miss C. Galloway h.c. Fruit :ako: Mrs. Hood h.c. (Only entries).
