BENEVOLENT STREET. COLLECTION. The Auckland Ladies'- Benevolent Society, an organisation which for a large number of years has done excellent work in the city, by rendering aid to those who while in urgent-need, ara yet not of the type that can go and ask for it. to-day held a' street collection for the purpose of aiding the funds for charity purposes. This course has- been adopted in preference to holding a" floral carnival, as under the latter .system a. lot of the money raised has. naturally to go in expenses, while a street collection, has the great axLvantage. that the donors have the pleasuxq .of knowing that they are giving for benevolence, and that the' whole of the- tftOHey Wttl be utilised for the purpose for which it was given. The ladies made an early start this morning, being at their stations at 7.30 o'clock, there being fifteen centres. Mrs C. M. Nelson has mentioned to a representative of the Auckland Star that lady collectors were also making a house-to-house canvass of the suburbs to-day. also that relays of ladies would relieve those on the street, and that the centres would ~ba held until 6.30 this vening.
