POLICE COURT.
(Before Mr. F. V. Fraser, vS.M.) THE DRUNKARDS. The first offenders were fined 5/, and two others had their bail of £ 1 forfeited. Other bailees who forfeited the amount of their deposits were Margaret Piper, £3, and James McKeown, 27/6. A PAIR OF SCISSORS. A young man, John Davies, went to the u-orkshop of Charles Wenke, a companion tailor, and carried away with him the latter's scissors, which he pawned for eighteen pence. In view of the fact that there was a previous offence against him, Davies was fined £3, in default a week's imprisonment. A PIANO-PLAYER'S LAPSE. Edward Travers admitted having used obscene language in Mt. Eden-road late "yesterday evening, when there were a number of people in his vicinity. The Sub-Inspector said that accused was a man who lived by piano-playing for lengthy periods, trying to break records. He would break a record, and then cease work until he had got through the proceeds of the record-breaking venture, and then break another record. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £3, or a week in gaol, and refused an application for time in which to pay. ALLEGED FALSE PRETENCES. A young man named Louis Charles Grant was arrested this morning in Auckland on a charge of obtaining, on 15th August in Masterton, the sum of £0 from Hy. C. F. Cotter, by means of a valueless cheque. He was remanded to appear at Masterton next- Friday, bail being allowed in two sureties of £25 each, or one of £SO.
