The High. Court of Australia upheld the appeal of the agent for an English firm against the second income tax assessment. Mr. Carmichael (Acting-Chief Secretary of N.S.W.) to-day opened the first section of the North Coast railway, one of the most important lines in the State. Hazel McKay, a recent arrival from New Zealand, was fined at the Sydney Police Court to-day for causing annoyance by knocking at a person's door dressed in male attire. The Irish envoys were welcomed on their arrival at Brisbane by the Attor-ney-General and a large Parliamentary party. Subsequently the Mayor tendered a civic welcome in the Town Hall. A public meeting at Lithgow, N.S.W., resolved to request the Federal Government to withdraw the iron bonus frail Hoskins, Limited, the proprietors of ifcj ironworks, until the men's demands are granted. Rough weather on the Australian coast caused steamers practically from -11 northern ports to be bar-bound, resulting in the worst famine of butter in Sydney for 20 years. Yesterday the weather moderated, and several vessels left the rivers and partially relieved the butter shortage. .. ".-, , VJC . ._
