THE SCARLET TROUBADOURS. The sparkling music and humour of The Scarlet Troubadours edified a fairly large audience at His Majesty's Theatre yesterday evening. To-day the entertainers will make their last appearance of the present Auckland season. "THE ARCADIANS." Quite a boom Is being created for "The Arcadians," which is to be presented by Clarke and Mcynell's English Opera Company at His Majesty's Theatre, commencing on Monday night next, August 14th. A big box office business is taking place at Wlldman and Arey's, and every Indication points to success, and deservedly so. "The Arcadians" Is a very large and expensive undertaking. England, America, and Australia have set their seals of success on this fantastical musical play, and no doubt Auckland's meed of praise will not be less than the southern cities of the Dominion. The company. Including some notable people from comic opera organisations Jn England, are new to the Dominion, as are the mnch-talked-of show girls. The settings are said to be of spectacular magnitude, and the dressing, which wll.l be a feature of the play, ought to make a strong appeal to devotees of fashion, as It represents the finest and most artistic work of Duelen. Paquin. and Worth, and "The Arcadian" costumes and their accessories have been designed by Wllhelm and made by Alias. London. An augmented chorus and a full operatic orchestra are accompanying the production. The company, scenery, and effects arrived by special steamer this morning, and a competent staff of mechanists, property men, electricians, and wardrobe people will he busily engaged, so ■that everything should be In readiness when the curtain rises at 7.45 on Monday night. Po that second-seat patrons shall not be disappointed, the management have decided to hold at least eight rows of the ordinary stalls for their convenience. WEST'S PICTURES. Tho splendid series of plctnres shown hv West's nt the Royal Albert Hall last evening includes some very interesting scenic and dramatic studies, in addition to a nnmber of really laughable comedy films, and the large audience thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. The Coronation pictures will be presented for the last time this evening. OPERA HOUSE. The Opera House was attended by a large nnmber last evening. The enrrent programme will be given for the last time this evening. FULLER'S PICTURES. The current programme at tJie King's Theatre was witnessed by a good number last evening. SOUSA'S BAND. Mr. Edward Branscombe and his management are to be heartily congratulated upon bringing so great a man as Sousa to our shores. The welcome and reception given him on arriving In Invercarjriil Is sufficient guarantee of the appreciation of so great an enterprise amongst the music-loving people in New Zealand, and all along the line this feeling has been Increasing, and the vast audiences growing more and more enthusiastic. Mr. Sousa, with bis magnetic personality, is a host in himself, bat Mr. Sousa and his band can be described only as a huge living organ. The band will arrive In Auckland by special train on Wednesday. August the 23rd. The season of eight nights and four matinees will commence at the Opera House on the evening of their arrival. The box plan will be opened on Thursday, the 17th, at Wlldman and Arey's. as announced in another column,, when a great rush for 6eats is expected. THE RINKS. The Glldeaway Rink was attended by a large number of skaters last evening. The Prince's Rink continues to be a popular resort of skater*. The Windsor Rink floor was generally appreciated last evening. The Royal Rink continues In popular favour. There was a large attendance at the Onehnhga Lyceum on Thursday evening. A half-mile race ended in a win for R. Reed. Elaborate preparations are being made for • carnival to ba held on Wednesday next.
