NEW ZEALAND WINE.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l am pleased to note the stand taken by Mr. Petrie in the defence of New Zealand wines. There is no drink more nourishing and strengthening or effective as a tonic than pure grape wine, which never produces insobriety. I am fully convinced that there is a large quantity of wine manufactured and sold by Austrians, but I nftiat uphold this, that they are the chief growers of grapes in New Zealand, and that their wine is manufactured from pure grape juice. I have spent my whole life in the manufactory. There is no necessity in New Zealand to make imitation Iwine, because grapes are so cheap and plentifully grown. From Mr. Andrew Jack, of the Wade, I have, this season purchased about 12 tons of grapes, while I have had smaller quantities- from many others. Wine-growing and manufacturing on an extensive scale can be seen at any time during the year at Mr. John Vella's and others at Oratia, near Waikumete, which is only a few miles drive from Auckland city. Large quantities are also manufactured in the Hswke's Bay province. Wine from three years of age and upwards wjn be found non-intoxicating, a good and beneficial beverage, and Btimulant. I Invite anyone to puTchasa a bqttlo of any of my wine, and te*t its purity by having the soma publicly am. etc, WENDEL AND CO., (Mrs.) B. Trevethlck, lAwnjiee, Wine Degoti Karangahape-road.
