CBy Telegraph.—Press Association.) j 1 WELLINGTON, this day- / The Commandant of the Forces, Genl. 1 Godley, by request attended the Farmers' Union conference to-day to answer any question, in regard to the new defence scheme. The General said the authorities had already practically settled j the training of nominated men ;n country districts. It had been arranged that the training of a mounted section should be late in the year, in May, or even as late as Jane. In regard to the thirty | drills to be done during tie year many I fanners had suggested that drills should 1 be lumped. Training to be of the great- j est value should be progressive through- 'i out the year; and he hoped fanners would meet them half way. The autho-1 rities would meet the fanners more tha.u I half way. I Several delegates suggested that the 1 month of May would not suit Canter- i bury, and General Godley said he would • be prepared to have October for Canter- I bury. The infantry camps would unquestionably be in the summer. j I
