(By Telegraph.—PreW J ''Association.) BIBLE EST SCHOOI&'CONFERENCE. CHRISTCHUUCH, Wednesday. An informal eonierenee, composed principally of ministers of religion, was held this morning to discuss matters connected (With religious instruction 'in schools. j Bishop Julius presided, and said that the representatives were "present of the Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist, Congrega- | tional, and Primitive Methodist Churches, and of the Salvation Army. After full discussion a resolution approving of the general principles of the New South Wales system was passed "without dissent. It was further decided that Bishop Julius and the Ravi' C. H- Laws, and the Eev. J. Mackenzie be associated in convening a similar conference in April nest year. The system as described by Mr. Davies provides: (1) For instruction being given in school hours from an approved Scripture reading book by the State school teachers, the instruction not to. include teaching in the distinctive tenets or doctrine of any religious denomination; (2) for ministers of religion to have the right of entry during one hour as arranged by the School Committee to give definite denominational teaching" to the "children" Of their own Church; and (3) for parents to withdraw their children from all religious instruction if they so desire. - "

SUICIDE. PALMERSTON NORTH, Wednesday. Fredk. William-SchHeriki, aged 29, committed suicide yesterday afternoon by cutting his throat with a razor in ai washhouse at his mother's residence. The deceased had- been in business as a plumber.

A WOMAN DROWNED. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. A sad death occurred at Sydenham this morning, Mrs. Schulz, of Dudley-street, Addington, being found rowned in Jackson's Creek. The body was lying face downwards in the in about four or five inches of water. At the" inquest a verdict was returned to the effect that the deceased was found drowned, but that there was no evidence .to show how she actually got into the water.

DREDGE HAND DROWNED. " DUNEDIN, Wednesday.

A married man named Daniel Findlayson, aged 52 years, residing in Mornington, -who was employed on the dredge Vulcan, was drowned this afternoon. He was due at work at 3.30 p.m., and on going on board the dredge he had to go down some steps. It is surmised that he slipped off the steps and fell into the water. The body has been recovered.
