Colonel Wolfe left this morning for Rotorua on defence business. He will return to Auckland on Monday next. Mr. H. W. L. Digby, chief reporter of the "Christchurch Press," is on a visit to Auckland. Mr. A. G. Millington, gaoler at Wellington,- died to-day from an. internal •complaint.—(Press Association.), Aucklandeis who will leave for the Old Country from Wellington by the Athenic "U. the. 13th prox. include Mr. and Mrs. Andrew M. Campbell, of Hamilton, and Mr. Alex. Milne, of Whangarei. Mr. John Sandon, a very old resident of Glen Oroua. near Palmerston North, died yesterday. The deceased's father was one of 'he founders of the township of Sandon. Local people who are proceeding Home through Cooks' include Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Gra7iger, and Mrs. and Miss Carter, ol Ponsonby, and Miss D. Boscawen, of Mount Eden, who left last Monday to join the Medic at Sydney; Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Gillmour, of Mount Eden, and Mrs. M. C. and Master Garlick, who are proceeding by the Orsova to London. Mr. and Mrs. Skeebnewsky, of Kawakawa, left on Monday, en route to a tour oi China and Siberia.

The Mayor (Mr. C. J. .Parr) who recently resigned his position as chairmau of the Education Board, has received the following letter from the chairman of the Mount Eden School Committee-.—

"Dear Sir, —At the last meeting of the committee the following resolution was passed unanimously: 'This this meeting desires to express Us appreciation to Air. Parr, _s member arid chairman of tho Education Board, for his practical interest in the,cause of education, and for the ability and energy displayed in the execution of his duties.' With kind regards, and every good wish for a long, useful, and happy life.—Yours sincerely. J: J. Mather."
