NEW ZEALAND ALLIANCE.
DEMAND FOB- SIMPLE MAJORITY. (BJr Telegraph.—Press association.) WEIAJJCGTON, Wednesday. The New Zealand Alliance convention this afternoon, passed the following rei solution:—"That this convention ■ reaffirms the principle of a simple majority ruling in licensing legislation, it main- ■ talus the! equal value of every vote, it condemns as unjust and intolerable the three-fifths handicap which has obtained for 17' years, and it ui-ges electors.to refuse to vote for candidates who support the three-fifths majority." The Town Hall was crowded to-night, when a public demonstration in favour of the principles of the New Zealand Alliance was held. Mr. Wesley Spragg (president of tbe Allicnee) presided; and addresses were delivered by LieutenantColonel. Birkenshaw, Miss Anderson Hughes; Rev. E. "M."lsitt, Mr; A. S. Adams,. Rev. J. Dawson, and Mrs. Barton. Mr. Isitt said the gathering celebrated the silver wedding of the New Zealand Alliance. The party had been kept united all the time, and It was never better welded than now, while members of the party were never more convinced of the logic of their case. An appeal for funds resulted in the collection of £32 ]«/. The following resolution ivas passed:—"This meeting, recognising that women are most deeply interested in the quest.on of the prohibition of the liquor traffic, rejoices to learn, of a. movement to organise a women's crusade in connection-with the .coming campaign, and the..women, present, voting for this resolution, promise to join the. crusade and to do-all in their power to forward "Ifo objects' and carry »offiTe^l"h6-M(!eh¥e : ia3"hatl<mal prohiwtfon «t the poQ* ia-Jfe——her next,"
