PUBLIC BODIES' MEETING.
NCeRTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL. j The monthly meeting of the Northcoie i Borough Council was held last evening. I Town Hall and Fire Brigade Station.— lOn the motion of Cr. Van Veen, It was ' decided to appoint a deputation to wait on the Hon. George Fowlos when In Auckland with a view to obtaining a Coronation l subsidy to assist in the erection of a town I hall and fire brigade station in the borough. It is understood action in the above direction is to be taken only in the event of the Government not giving Its approval of a Coronation subsidy for tho proposed Coronation Park in Little Shoal Bay, joint representation in this direction having been made by the Nortcote and Birkenhead Councils, no definite reply having yet been received. Shell.—A letter was received from the Auckland Harbour Board granting permission to the Council to remove shell from Little Shoal Bay, to be used solely for road purposes. Hospital Levy.—The Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote stating that tho Council's proportion of the cost of administration was £96 6/2 fox the year 1911-12. Gas Services.—lt was decided to request the Gas Company to notify the foreman of works when it was intended to put in services, so that adequate supervision might be given, and the roadway placed in good repair. Coronation Church 'Service.—The Rev. A. F. Smith, vicar of St. John's Anglican Church, wrote inviting the Council to attend Divine service on Thursday, 22nd inst (Coronation Day), nt 10 a.m. It was decided to accept the Invitation. Wairematn Court (Winter Show).—The committee set up with a view to establishInjr a Waitemata Court at the Winter Show, 1012, wrote asking the Council for financial assistance. Consideration was deferred. Repairs Needed.—Complaints regarding the state of Waimann-avenue, Gladstoneroad, Richmond-avenue, and Callans-road wire referred to the Works Committee. Rntes.—The following rates were struck: General rate of 1/5 in the pound, water rate 1/, hospital and charitable aid mte Id in the pound, making a total rate of 2/6 In the pound on the annual value of the bormurh, being the same ns last year. The road loan account belnir in credit, it was decided not to collect this rate, but to Increase the general rate by 5d from this source, and also by 2d from the hospital rate, which fund Is also in credit. Estimates.—The estimates for the current year were adopted, the estimated revenue being £1182 3/10, and the expenditure £1178 0/2. Water for Birkenhead.—The Town CleTk of Birkenhead write that his Council had no power to reopen the water supply question. DEVONPORT BOROUGH COUNCIL. The ordinary meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was 'hold last night. Foreshore.—A communication was read from the Auckland Harlionr Board, granting permission to the Council to construct a retaining sea-wall at any future time along tho foreshore from Cnlllope Dock to tho North Head, one hundred feet from the agreed boundary. Yachts.—Attention having been drawn to the number of yachts drawn up on the beach, with the bowsprits In some cases overhanging the roadway, the Streets and \ Works Committee were directed to limit the area which yachts will be allowed to occupy on the beach frontage. Caliope-road.—Mr. J. P. Kalaugher aski>d that the Council, when forming the footpath in Calllope-rond, should exteDd U to Stanley Bay wharf. It was resolved I to get the foreman of works to estimate for I the extra work Involved. St. Leonnrd's-rond.—The foreman of works was instructed to give early attention to a complaint regarding the bad state ; of St. Leonard's road, and to make tho footpath passable. Charitable Aid. —The Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote static that the amount of the contribution payable by the borough of "Devonport was £539 5/7. It was resolved to make payment In four quarterly instalments. Golf Links. —It was resolved to put down sufficient scoria to make the crossing at the foot of Vauxhall-road passable. Alexandra-street.,—A petition (presented by Mr. Cranch) from the residents in Alex-andra-street asked that the approaches to the houses in the street be pnt in order suitable for pedestrian traffic. The Mayor was of opinion that the Council's money could not legally be spent on this street, and -the matter was referred to the Finance and Legal Committee for investigation. Waitemata Court.—lt was resolved to 1 donate £10 towards the fund for establishing a Waitemata court at the winter show next year. EPSOM ROAD BOAT£D. The Epsom Road Board met in the Newmarket Hail last evening, the chairman (Mr 'W. Tt. (Bloomfleld) presiding. Other j members present were Messrs. «. G. Clark, and W. Jones. ■Mr. J. A. Jones Introduced a large depu-, tat'ion of residents living in Disraeli-street, who asked that the 'Board should do some-1 thing to put this thoroughfare In order. Mr. Holmes said that the road had now sunk to a depth of four feet below its orig-1 lnal level. The cost of putting it in order' i again would be about £40. Mr. BloomfleM said that at one time "the land had been regarded as an impossible residential quarter, and the street was over a rough and ! rocky piece of country. He 'promised, however, 'that the matter would not be lost sight of, and that the Board "would visit :the street on the following morning. | Accounts to the amount of £250 were tressed for payment.
