AUCKLAND BOWLING ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING. Tbe sixteenth annual meeting of the Auckland Provincial Bowling Association took place in the Chamber of Commerce Hall last night, the president (Mr J. Carlaw) occupying the chair. There was a good attendance of delegates. On the motion of the president, the report and balance-sheet, which appeared in these columns yesterday, -were adopted. _• «. Rankin (Mount Eden) suggested that in future tournaments the champion pairs competition should not be started until the completion of tie champion fours match. The chairman pointed out "that each an alteration would be for the match, committee to decide. iMr E. A. Craig (Epsom) suggested that the annual meeting should in future be held In some fixed week of the year. As treasurer, also, lie drew attention to the difficulty he had experienced in getting in match fees. He did not think that anyone desired to do the Association out of fees —; it was merely an oversight; but In future he' thought that no entrances should be accepted for competitions unless accompanied by the fees. It was decided, as a recommendation to the incoming delegates, that the annual meeting of the Association should In future take place in the last week of August, The president, In vacating office, thanked the delegates for the courtesy and assistance extended to him during hie presidency. Although leaving office, he assured bowlers that his interest in the affairs of the Association, with which he had been connected since its inception, would in no wise wane.

The election of officers resulted as follows:— President, Mr M. Casey; vice-presi-dent, Mr E. A. Craig* hon. secretary, Mr A. M. Bryden (re-elected); hon. treasurer, Mr J. Carlaw; auditor, Mr G. F. Brinrble-eom-be (re-appolnted). It was decided to adjourn the meeting till the last week in August for the election of the Match Committee cm that date, the opinion being that, as most of the delegates present were last year's delegates, it would 'be more fitting that the appointment of the match committee should be held over till the various clubs had elected their delegates for the ensuing season. A communication from the Carlton Club suggested that it should be ruled that any howler leaving one club should not be allowed to join another until he had paid np his arrears to his old club. Mr C. C. Laurie, in supporting the suggestion, confessed the opinion that such a rule was ■necessary to prevent bowlers from defaulting. The president spoke against the introduction of such a rule as being too arbitrary. 'Several delegates supported the suggestion, while others agreed with Mr Craig. Mr Coldicutt expressed £he opinion that each club should be allowed to manage its own affairs in that respect. Such a rule as was proposed might not only lead to lardship on a bowler, who might have some good reason to leave a club, but might also involve litigation. Mr Coltman (Devonport) considered that in the case of deliberate breaches of faith between a member and -his club, he should be debarred from joining another club. He took it that the club would make every investigation before posting a member in the way suggested. He moved that the suggestion of the Carlton Clob should be forwarded as a recommendation to a special committee, with instructions to formulate a rule dealing with the matter. Mr Schnauer (Onehunga) seconded the motion. The motion was finally carried in the following form:—"That it be a recommendation to the incoming delegates that consideration of the question referred to in the Carlton Club's communication be taken in hand by a sab-committee, comprising Messrs Seimaner, Coltman, Coldicutt. and the executive officers of the Association." It was decided, after considerable discussion, to notify the Victoria Bowling Club that the Association regretted, after ■full consideration, that it could not admit the Victoria Club to affiliation. It was decided that the New Zealand a-nd Northern Bowling Associations should be communicated with on 'the question of a proposed tour thrugh the Dominion during the next bowling season. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to the executive officers of the past year for their services in the interests of the Association.
