TEMPERANCE" SOCIETY'S EXHIBITION.

The Auckland United' Temperance I Societies opened their exhibition- and I fair this afternoon in.Shed, F, Queenstreet wharf, the ceremony Tieing per-' formed by bis "Worship the Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr). For soipe days previously the large building "was a. hive of activity, and this afternoon rt presented a" gay appearance, being decked out with numerous bright-coloured-flags; while the tasteful decorations stalls, each of which liad its individual colourscheme, made the effect of tile wiole extremely fine. The keen interest which' all classes of temperance ■workers are taking in the exhibition is shown by the entries for the competitions, -wtMcn include drawing, essay-writing, design, needlewerk, cookery, laundry-work, flowers,- fruit -and produce, wMle there are competitions between and for the benefit of bay and girl scojits. In addition to-the. competitive exhibits, a. large number of- Interesting articles of all kinds have been lent to the exhibition. These include some fine models of rolling-stock from the Amalpainatpd fiociety of Eailway Servant*} mat-mafc-ing exhibit toy the Salvation Army, Ksperanto stalls; display of work by the Jubilee Institute fox the Blind;, collection of Pacific Island shells, Mr of Mount Albert; aad'->a coHectio'n. from" the G-reat Barrier.

The stalls include tteose- of the city, and Grey Lynn electorate, and others for the sale of refreshments* sweets, needle-work l fruiifc anl produce, and gif±s presented toy friends. Ocher attractions are the art- galllery, maze (a reproduction of the famous-labyrinth at Hampton Court>, rifle racge, marionette show, rifle range, and comic- art gallery. A prominent object in the centra of the fair is a large obelisk \howing -the increase in the no-license vote at the last four or five elections. A foandetand has also <been erected, and music will be provided each evening- the fair is open. There ■will be a half-hour- concert in addition, at which, a gooct-rausical profframme will be given.
