The serious conflict between the Shops and Offices Act and the award in the butchering trade'was referred to by Mr. Grosvenor at the Arbitration Court to-day. fie pointed out that, the award covering butchers' shop-as-sistants, the terms of Which were agreed to by the parties interested, provides for wages for a week of 56 hours, whereas the Shops and Offices Act, Without affecting tbe wagea, provides for a week of only 52 hours, .and a clause previously inserted, making the Act suV ject to an award, had been- deleted.
