THE THIRD DESTROYER.
LAUNCHED AT SYDNEY. A SELF-RELIANT POLICY, (Bj- Cable.—Press Association—Copyright.) SYDNEY, April 4. The destroyer Warrego, which has been put together at Cockatoo Dock, the parts having been shipped from England, was launched to-day amid a scene ol tremendous enthusiasm. At the luncheon, the Governor-General said that Australian money would be well spent on the purchase and management of their own ships. Mr. Holman (State Premier) proposed a new toast, "The Australian Navy." Mr. Fisher (Federal prime Minister), in responding, said that it was essentially a fleet for defence. They determined to make the defence as perfect as possible. The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce) said that it was proposed to ask the British Government to allow them the privilege of having the boats manned by Australians. It was hoped to open a navy establishment in Sydney for the education of officers, and training schools for the men. He repudiated the idea that Australians should lean upon Britain for support. He did not think Australians had been staggered by Admiral Henderson's report.
