WAIHI ELECTIONS.
THE MINERS' PLATFORM.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent)" WAIHI, this day. A special meeting of the Miners' Union was held yesterday in connection with the forthcoming municipal elections. The following members of the union were elected as the union's nominees to stand for councillors: G. N. Jones, W. Sullivan, J. Johnson, F. A. Brown, E. Patrick, W. Robinson, J. Spearing (ten seats on the Council). It was resolved that each candidate for the mayoralty be asked to sign the union platform, failing which the union will nominate a candidate. The platform includes (1) municipalisation of certain industries dealing with the necessaries of life, (2) opposition to the squandering of money in useless officialism and the feasting of local institutions and city companies, (3) day wages, (4) organisation of unemployed labour, (5) recognition of the Miners' Union in fostering industrial organisation, (6) equal opportunity in connection with Council appointments, and also a municipal laundry and free maternity home*. '
