A FATAL FALL.

.Charles .Clarke, a single young, man of about 25 years, and a native of England, was found lying dead in a lift well at the New Zealand Express Company's central sample rooms, Victoria Quadrant, this morning. ; ! i - V f : The deceased came out from England a little over four years ago, and for nearly four years he has been in the employ of the New Zealand Express Company, as a caretaker and storeman. He was in his usual health on Saturday, but at 8.15 this morning an employee, on going: to the sample rooms, could not find Clarke. > A search, was at once made, when hie. was found lying' in a pool of congealed blood at the bottom of the lift well. ifir Murray was at. once called in, but Clarke was then dead. and. appeared, to iave been so for a number of hours. It is surmised that Clarke, in walking in the dark, stumbled and 1 fell down the lift well, sustaining injuries sufficient to anise his death. It was deceased's intention to return to England this weeit, and for this purpose fie had booked - a passage on one of the Home : boats. ' ' ■ ■'■'>-
