; LONDON, April 1. 1 The Oxford and Cambridge University boat race was rowed to-day over the I Thames course, from Putney to Mortlake. Oxford won by two and a-aalf lengths. Cambridge got the better start and led for a short distance, but Oxford quickly overhauled them, and were leading by two lengths at Hammersmith. Cambridge improved their position between Doves' and Thornyeroft's, where only a length separated the boats. '■ The Oxonians forged ahead again, and passing Barnes' had three lengths Jto the good. They held the advantage to the finish, winning by two lengths and a-half in 18m 295, which is a record. 1
