St. Stephen's Sunday School (Ponsonby) annnal picnic was held at Pine Island on Saturday last. Ovex 200 children, with a number of their parents, made the trip from Ponsonbr wharf in the morning by the s.s. Onewa, and in the afternoon many of the adult members of St. Stephen's congregation irere present. The minister (Rev I. Jolly) and Mrs. Jolly were in attendance, and tha superintendent and teachers satisfactorily coped with the needs of their numerous charge. Games of all kinds were indulged in before dinner. The afternoon was devoted to sports, into which the children entered heartily, all events bein;: keenly contested. Fine weather prevailed, although rain threatened at times, and a most enjoyable day was spent by all. The Onewa arrived back at Ponsonby wharf at seven pjn. In addition to heavy produce freighting, the steamer Mamari, which left Auckland for London on Saturday last, teok 29 l»re and one box of bullion, valued at £21,682.
