MEAT TRUSTS FIRST DEFEAT

DEBENTURES WITHDRAW!*.

HEW WORKS MAT BE STARTED.

(Received 11.40 a.m.)

MELBOURNE, this day.

Mr. Elder, of the firm of John Cooke and Company, states that owing to strong expressions of public opinion, the debenture scheme of the Meat Trust has been withdrawn.

Yet he does not expect a complete retreat. The men to whom the debentures were offered are faced with the alternative of buying shares or meeting competition from new works.
