(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER GAS COMPANSC NAPIER, this day. ■" The annual report of the Napier Gas Company discloses a very profitable year. After .payment of an interim dividend in June, a profit o£ £7,355 remained, and the directors recommended that a further £5,533 be allocated, leaving a balance of £ 1.821 to be carried forward.
FIRE AT NAPIER. NAPIER, this day. A two-storeyed dwelling in Hastingsstreet, owned by H. Fisher, of Wellington, and occupied by Mrs. OTlalloran, was completely gutted by fire early this morning. Mrs. O'Halloran and a little boy living with her escaped in their night attire. The building wsfis insured for £150 in the Atlas Company, and the contents for £175 in the Norwich Union.
MISCELLANEOUS. WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. William Jajdine, engine fitter, employed by the Union Steamship Company, died suddenly this morning. •As the coastal steamer Nance was leaving the Wharf on Saturday night a .woman named Hannah Little jumped into the harbour. She was rescued by a sailor, and this morning was charged with having attempted to commit suicide. She was convicted and ordered_,to come up for sentence. '* BLENHEIM, this day. Mr. Herbert Oben, the well-known representative footballer, was accidentally shot in the head while rabbit shooting at Taylor Pass yesterday. It is feared he may lose the sight of one eye. Fifty thousand trees were destroyed by fire at Dumgree last week, and the damage is now estimated at £4,000 to £5,000. MASTERTON, this day.
Mr. John Hunter definitely announces his decision to contest the Masterton seat as a straightout Government candidate at the next election.
