"Peter the Painter," leader of the Houndsditch gang, 13 described by an acquaintance as a man of great intellectual attainments. He ■is a great Continental anarchist organiser, and is believed to have been one of the chief organisers of the Russian revolution of 1905. He is wanted by the Russian police. The Carnegie Hero Fund Trustees have awarded medals to Dr. Johnston and two men who carried Detective Leeson to safety when wounded in the Sydney-street affray.
