The roof garden at the Albert la j much appreciated this -weather. ■« .—- , a THE WINDSOR. J The management at the Windsor Pictures, ; | Ponsonby-road, Is putting on a complete change this evening, un-d with their usual t enterprise have imported the best obtain- , able. ;, WONDERLAND. '« i The first carnival arranged at Wonder- * land begins on the 19th, when there will be 1 a monster floral fete, and masked fancy dress evening. Five prizes of £5 each, and I three of £2 each will be given for the best * costumes, the best bouquet, and the best skaters, and in addition a very varied pro- * gramme of amusements, such* as tent peg- ? glug, tilting at the rlug, blind man's buff, J all on skates, lhas been arranged. , ■ j: "WHAT HAPPENED TO JONES." ] The Geo. Willoughby Co. gives its first 1 change of programme at His Majesty's Tht>a- < tre to-night. "What Happened to Jones" j will be staged for the first time In eight ( yealie. and should prove an attraction. "Wbat 1 happened to everybody except Jones" really ] describes the farcical course of the story, j The first cause of mirth and mischief Is ,i young Richard Heatherlpy (Mr Hugh C. ■ Buckler), who coaxes that feeble man of J science, Professor Ebenezer Goodley (Mr ) I'Yed B. Sharp), to a prize-fight, urging that, ; as a lecturer on anatomy, he ought to observe the muscular system in all its glory. When the boxius club Is raided by the police, the professor achieves a star acrobatic descent down a waterspout, followed by young Heutherley and a stranger, the audacious Jones (Mr Ueoree WlUoußhby), anil they all reach the professor's home much bruised, and almost in rags. Thereafter the star of the ull-dominating Jones shapes the destinies of the <Jon<lly household in an astonishing way. The Hey. Dr. Goodly (Mr Hnrry Halley), divinity author and poet, expected home from Australia after an absence of 30 years, has sent on in advance i a complete salt, as for a dean of blameless character, and irreproachable fraiterH. Jones seizes on these, faces an infuriated police constable with an aspect of mild re-buke. kisses Mrs Goodly (Miss Beatrice Day), and especially her pretty daughters, and nearly drives the profeswor and Heatbfcrley (who is in love with one of them) to the verge of madness. How Dr. Goodly himself arrives, is hustled into a bedroom, ■whilst "Francois, the valet" (Heatherley) brushes his clothes, and. stealing out to look for them in a suit 'of blankets, encounters an escaped lunatic made up as an Ojibbeway Indian Chief, also in blankets, should be seen to be properly 1 enjoyed. The complications thenceforward , are 'as funny as any that farce-comedy of ; this kind can furnish. "Slippery Jim," a ; dramatic burglar episode in one act, with j Miss Beatrice Day in the leading role, will j precede "Jones." j ■'THE SQrATTKR'S DAUGHTER." ! The biograph film of the Australian . drama, "The Sauatters Daughter," is to be j shown at His' Majesty's Theatre for a ' short season, commencing on Monday, December lftth next, by the Messrs MacMahon Bros. The entire play was recently per- j formed by Mr. Wm. Anderson's Company \ in Sydney and adjacent country districts, j under the supervision of the joint authors, ,' Messrs. Bert Bailey and Edmund Dugguu. Excellent results are said to have been ob- ' talned. The film, which is an exceptioui ally long one, reproduces all dramatic I scenes of the drama, and. gives a connected and graphic story. It has been creating 1 much Interest in Sydney and other parts : lof the Commonwealth. Auckland amuse- j I ment-seekers should find it easy to apprecl- | ! ate what Is described as a triumph In cine- ; I matographic art. PIANOFORTE RECITAL.
