MEETINGS.

NOUTHCOTE ANGLICAN BAZAAR. The men's bazaar in connection with the Northeote Anglican Church was opened in the Parish Hall by Mr. 11. Cadness (Mayor) last night. The Rev. Smith (Vicar) explained that the bazaar was in aid of the fund to extinguish the Vicarage debt. The . hall was prettily decorated, while the stalls 1 were tastefully arranged, reflecting great I credit on the promoters. A feature of the ! bazaar Is a large Christmas tree, from .which every child attending the bazaar re- .' ceives a present. There was a very large - attendance during the evening, and the ■! stalls, which were well patronised, were presided over as follows: —Local Industry , stall (made up of donations In goods from : local firms), Mr. Tyer, assisted by Mi. 1 Cadness; flowers, Mr. B. Cadness; refreshI ments, Messrs. Meek and V. Smith; Ice . cream, Messrs. Van Veen, Messenger, and .Ellis: all-sorts, Messrs. A. Harrison, ' Havlll, and Budd; sweets, Messrs. Angus > and Adams; Christmas tree, Messrs. Warl ncr and Blcknell; post office, Mr. A. Sharp ; electric battery, Mr. Slnnett; shooting gallery. Messrs. A. Whatford and G. Cadness; >, cloakroom, Mr. Draflra ; doorkeepers, Messrs I Redgrave and Metge. The bazaar will continue open this afternoon and evening. CHRISTIANITY IN ROME. An interesting lecture on "The Introduc- ! tion of Christianity In-to Rome" was given ■by the Rev. Father Edge a.t St. Benedict's ; Hall last uight, the proceeds being in aid lof the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. . Benedict's branch. The lecturer described the trials, hardships and sacrifices the early 1 Christians endured, and traffd the progress 1 the new religion made, desp: i> the oppresI sion of the tyrant with the accompanying i terrors of the Coliseum, in which the faithj day, and finally took his hearers to that i memorable day when Constantine at the I head of his victorious army- entered Rome, I hearing not the Eagle, but the standard of the cross.
