BOWING. M.em.ber3 o£ tne Ngaruawahia Rowing Club last week held their four-oared trials for trophies presented by Mr. A. Hamblln. The first heat was" rowed on Monday evening last. The trials were subdivided into four heats, a eemi-nnal, and final, and two of tie heats ■ were decided on Saturday evening, the results being as follows: —First lieat: Quintal (stroke), Sampson (8), Farrelly, Kellow (bow), beat PTendergast (stroke), Henderson, Walsh, Booth; won by IS inches. Second heat: Gillander (stroke), Glennyn, MeKercher, Hutt, beat Parker (stroke), Kamsay, J. Booth, Etavis, by two lengths. Third neat: Fuller (stroke), Cnulder, Park, Goldie, beat Wilson (stroke), Peterson, <i. Henderson, Cavanagh; won by athalf-canvas after n great go. Fourth heat: "Quintal and his crew beat W. Puller's crew by two lengtljs and a-half. Seml-flnal: R. Puller beat Gillander by two feet. The final heat took place on Saturday evening. From an even start both crews set out a merry pace, and as they drew towards the winning pwt Hie crowds were wild with excitement. The crews finished Fide by side, but by the judge's verdict Quintal and fils crew won by the narrowest xnargatn. Mr. Meeshack made aii efficient Judge, and gave great satisfaction.
