UNIVERSITY REFORM.

WELLINGTON, Monday. The Court oi Convocation of •tiho Middle University District considered, the question of university reform to-night. The Bib-committee reported, after discussion, with representatives of the Professorial Board of Victoria College, as follows: — "That the college governors do not make adequate provision for university studies or research."
"That facilities for modern university teaching are not equal to the maximum required for an efficient university."
"That details of curricula for degrees Wd of the syllabus for individual subjects Mc technical matters, and, therefore, university teachers should, ex offieio, take definite and regular part in all this portion of academic leg-ielation." 'That the external exajnination system is (a) educationally unsound, as it pndidy exalts examination, and divorces it from teaching; (h) decreasing the se-nse oi responsibility of making complete and adequate provision for teaching." "That a Royal Commission should be appointed to take evidence both within Md -without New Zealand, and to recommend such changes as will give the Dotation a modern and efficient university system."
