SUPPOSED POISONING.

' i —#■ — ■■ — ■— DEATH OF, MR. ARCHIE MEYERS. Mr. James Henry Edward Archibald Meyers, one of Messrs. Sbarland and Company's travellers, a married man, about 35 years of age, died suddenly at his residence, ChelteaUam-road, Devonport, early this morning under circumstances which point to poisoning. Mr. Meyers, this morning, feeling unwell, asked his wife to telephone to his employers that he would be unable to come to work, and then took what was presumably a Seidlitz powder. After drinking the liquid in which the powder was dissolved, Mr. Meyers remarked that it had a bitter taste, and immediately said that he felt symptoms of strychnine poisoning. Drs. Guinness and Atkinson were rung up, and arrived shortly after, when they found deceased in convulsions. Everything possible was done, -out Meyers expired at 10 a.m. The doctors expressed the opinion that death was caused by strychnine, and the police have taken possession of the box from which the supposed seidlitz powder was taken. An inquest will be held. Deceased had 'been a traveller for Messrs. Sharland and Co. for about eight years, and he was highly respected by a large circle of friends and business acquaintances. On Saturday afternoon Mr. Meyers was playing bowls on the Devonport green, and he was then feeling as well as usual. He leaves a widow and one child.
