WHITEHAVEN DISASTER.
EXPLOSION OF GAS. LONDON, December 3. [ The verdict of the Board of Inquiry J 5 that the Whitehaven disaster was due ™ the explosion of gas and coaldust com■bined, and there was insufficient evidence to show that it was due, as had been a >leged, to a defective safety lamp. The closing of the pit was, the Board added, a rightful expedient, as there was possible means of reaching those entombed.
