DOMINION DAY.

." (To the EultOi.V ' I Sir,—lt is, I think, time that Parliament considered suitable time for the observance of Dominion Day. At pre;ent. it lacks proper consideration;, it lame.as a surprise, and is yet rather eeblej although a three-year-old youngster should begin to.be strong on. its eet and, have a good deal to say. Donirrion Day should be our national holilay, observed with enthusiasm from North to South. -We sadly require a, lational spirit. We have a national lag, although I notice that someone wants another; we could do with a national flower, and then on the day chosen Ear the national holiday, properly celebrate Dominion Day. In choosing the day, we want to avoid creating another holiday. With our generally reasonable hours of work, we have too many holidays. It seems to mc that the most suitable day would be that of the anniversary of the Colony, and' 'erase all provincial anniversary holidays. If that proposal is• objected to, November sth would be a good day. There is a general feeling that the November holiday should be maintained. The special reason for November 9th no longer exists. November sth would give some decent reason, which at present ia .lacking, for fireworks," squibs, and crackers, so dear to the young folk, in which every section of the community could heartily join, as a goodly portion* do now. At all eyents, we want the day to be in some time of the year that the people can enjoy themselves out of doors, for which reason the first day suggested has strong claims. I should be pleased, to see the matter fully discussed throughout the Dominion, as I am satisfied the i question deserves to be, as when the celebration of Dominicm Day means the : commemoration of a national spirit anc aspiration, it will evoke a sentiment o] | great good tp our people.—l am, etc., : R.
