Mr. A. J. Willis, ex-clerk of the Executive Council, and the oldest Civil servant in New Zealand, died yesterday in Wellington at the age of 82 years. The deceased was born in Cape Colony, and entered the Tasmanian Civil Service when 12 years old, and the New Zealand service in 1860 as Secretary of the Otago Provincial Council. He was secretary to the Cabinet and Clerk of the Executive Council from the abolition of the provinces till he retired last year. The deceased was twice married. He leaves a widow and one son (Mr. W. Willis, ot Gore) and one daughter (Mrs. Hill Jacks, of Dunedin) by his first marriage, and the following by his second:—Mrs. E. Geach (Sydney), Mrs. Will Lawson, Mrs. D. Steel (Johnsonville), Mrs. A. Hubbard (Masterton), Mrs. Mowatt (Blenheim), and the Misses Willis (2) and five sons, Mr. Geo. Willis (secretary Wellington Charitable Aid Board), Mr. D. Willis (Wairarapa Farmers' Board), Mr. Cecil Willis (fourth engineer s.s. Maori), and Messrs. F. and R. Willis JJil*nh.tim)j
