PEARSON, OE - t ' Watts ' secret ary of the Auc& land Cricket Association, has been advised by cable from Lord Hawke that tt accordance with the request of the Association, he has selected F. Pearson of Worcestershire, as coach for Auckland; Pearson was born in ISSO, and is t_U3 30 years of age, being practically in Ms prime as a cricketer. He is spoken of in "Wisden" a,s a very forceful bat, and up to June 25 was eleventh in the averages, his figures being 495 for 13 innings, highest score 104, average 38.07. He was not, however, mentioned in the bowlini Last season he played in 20 matches, his batting reading: Innings 37, runs 1103, highest score 161, average 30.69. In bowling he sent down 286 overs, of which 53 were maidens, for 945 runs and 35 wickets, average 27.05. It will thus be seen that he is much stronger in batting than bowling. Pearson will leave London by the Ruapehu on October 1, and is expected to arrive in Auckland on Novenp ber 16.
