INDUSTBIAIi ASSOCIATION, The Committee of the Auckland Provincial Industrial Association met at the secretary's (Mr Ti fi. "Whltton) office yesterday afternoon. . - - ■'•'■

Training School.—Reports of visits paid by two committees of the Association ■to the Technical College were presented by Mr S. Nathan. The school was found In a State of. efficiency, but tie building was too small for requirements. They were informed that from 390 to 400 students attended the classes nightly, and when the School wad visited there Were 200 students at work In. the various departments. . The chairman said that there was no doubt that it 'was a very valuable institution, and It was a pity the public did Hot take more interest in It. Manufacturers'. Complaint.—MrC. Hodgson moved, "That this meeting of manufacturers, being members of the Anckland Industrial Association, respectfully protests against the form of inquiries for the census returns, especially clauses 8 and 9; the stating of the total value of all materials used Is ample information for all practical purposes for Government retuens for publication; the total value of productions is, in our opinion, sufficient for information sought under clause 11; the returns to be submitted by manufacturers for the census of 1911 should be those nearest to the annual stocktaking of respective manufacturers previous to the 31st March nest." Mr Nathan seconded. No one seemed to know the why and wherefore of such an enormous mass of information being required, which in many instances was almost impossible to supply. The monthly meeting of the Auckland University College Council, held yesterday afternoon, was attended by the chairman (Sir M-aurice O'Rorke) and the Hon. J. A. Tole, Messrs T; TJ. Welle find C. J. Parr, the Mayor of Auckland (Mr L. J. Bagnall), Dr. W. C. "WV McDowell, and the Key. Wi Beatty. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs T.- W. Leys, G. I/. Pcacocke and Dr. Bamford. The Remuera Kdad Board met Jast night. There -were present: The chairman. (Mr. C. A. Cawkwell), and Messrs. B. Bond, W. J. Parker, and P. Spencer. - The chairman reported that in regard to the constitution of the Auckland .Harbour Board, under the provisions of the Harbours Bill, and with, the object of securing for Remuera direct representation, he cad forwarded several telegrams to the Minister for Marine, pointing out that If the request was granted, the number of members would not be increased. ' The desire was that the term "County of Eden" should be altered to :h« Remuera Bead district. Mr. W, P. Miissey. (Leader of the Opposition) and other members had promised to support Remuera'e claim for direct representation. The public health inspector reported two cases of diphtheria, which, had been, removed to J the Auckland Hospttal. The inspector also suggested that something should be done towarde dealing with the storm-water In the low-lying areas around Marewa-road as houses in that vicinity had their foundations flooded. It was decided to forward a copy of the letter to the One-tree -Hill Board. . -

ONE-TBiEE HILL ROAD'BOARD. The One-tree Hill Road Board met last nf- m There were present: The Chairman (Mr B. A. Craig)i Messrs T. H. Sowe, C. Brooks, O. CJreagh, and C. M«Klriney A deputation from the Ellerslie Town Board, headed by the Chairman (Mr Geo. Wilkinson), waited upon the Board Tvith reference to necessary drainage works in the One-tree Hill district, contiguous to the Ellerslie boundary. It was decided to refer the matter to a -committee to report to tho next meeting of the Board. It "waa decided to convert the dangerous crossing at the Royal Oak Hotel and Mount Smart-road into a level crossing. The Chairman gave notice to move at the nest meeting of the Board, "That a general rate of three farthings In the £ on the capital value of all ratable property be struck for tke year commencing on September 1,. 1910."
