AQUATICS.

(To the "Aquatic" Editor.)

Sir, —Some time ago, while attending the annual distribution of prizes at the Richmond Cruising Club, a full report of which appeared in your paper the following evening, I heard the chairman announce that a conference of yachtsmen was to be held during the winter. I understood him to say that one matter to be discussed at this conference was the subject of protected moorings for yachts. This in itself is an important matter, as yachting is, I think, one of the most popular summer sports in Auckland. The conference is a thing that is badly needed, as yachting is, 1 believe, the only sport in New Zealand which has not a Jxigh court of appeal. I should ■like to suggest to those yachtsmen who have the convening of this conference, that from this should emanate a governing body in which all yacht and sailing clubs should affiliate. Such governing body could arrange with the representatives of dubs the days on -which ea<;h club's races shall be held. Under the present system clashing is a common event. Other matters are police protection, as thieving from yachts and launches is an almost evcry-day occurrence, and iix'iDg an opening day for the opening of the season. His late Majesty's Birthday (November 9) 'was always looked upon (even when it was the Prince of Wales' Birthday) as the opening day. but now the King's and the Prince of "Wales' Birthdays are in the same month (,Tune), when most yachts are in their •winter quarters.—l cm, etc.,
