(To the Editor.) Sir, —I hope that a very strong protest will come from Auckland for the total suppression of the bookmaker. It i 3 not a time for half-measures, and I sincerely trust that the people at large will see that, now is the time to eradicate once for all this social cancer that flourishes in our midst with such a demoralising effect on the community at large, aud more especially our young men.—l am, etc., " " HOPEFUL. (To the Editor.) Sir, —'I can fully endorse the remarks made by "Worker" on the above. I 'have had it brought prominently under my notice quite recently that there are scores of "amateur bookies" who are a source of evil to those who work alongside them, and are often the means of first inducing young fellows and even boys /to bet who otherwise might have never done so.—l am, etc., ANOTHER WORKER.
