Parnell and Grafton met On No. 2

ground. Parnell won the toss, and took advantage of a slight breeze blowing. Grafton forced play into Parnell's territory from the kick-off, and the ball was sent out at the quarter-llag. From a long throw-in, Parnell started a dribbling rush, and got to Grafton's territory. Alexander returned out up the line, and when play was in again, about Grafton's quarter, Hard-wick got out from the ruck, passed to Ar,mstrong, to Twiname, to Hogan, the latter scoring in the corner. Hardwick took the kick, without success. Parnell 3 Grafton - 0 Grafton gradually forged up the field, and as the result of a forward rush Eaton fell on the ball, the score being evened very quickly. Eaton himself took the kick and failed. Grafton 3 ParneU 3 Grafton stayed in Parnell's territory till Hardwick sent out nicely at centre. From the line-in, Twiname sent out nicely in Grafton's half, and Thomas sent out nicely to his backs, -but a knock-on spoiled. Grafton, for offside play, were awarded a free kick, which was returned out near centre by Thomas. Grafton continued to press. Thomas re'ieved by taking a nice mark, but his kick into Grafton's territory was returned by Alexander. Thomas, a minute later, from centre, found the iine well in Grafton's 25. Grafton were in danger for a minute, and Oandy's kick out about ten yaTds up the line was a relief to them. Tho maroons continued to press, and Grafton were penalised for lying on the ball. Hardwick took a kick, which went wide, and Grafton forced. Thomas returned the kick-in, and sent out at Grafton's 25. On turning round for the quarter-time play centred, for a time. Brewin took a nice mark for Grafton, and the ball was sent neaT Parnell's 25. Graicoir were penalised for off-side, and Parnell sent out near centre. Prom a scramble Cleave gained ground for Parnell with a nice bit of footwork. The ball was returned to centre, where Smith marked. Hardwick kicked a nice line-kick for Parnell. His side were pressing hard, but a nice kick by Deans relieved. Parnell were penalised a minute later, and the ball was sent out at centre. From a scrum, Brewin made a trick kick, and sent into Parnell's 25. Thomas, with a mark, saved, and Hardwick sent out at centre. From a scrum Brewin sent out to Power, who kicked to Parnell's end, where from another scrum Brewin got out again, jrafton were penalised for Marshall being offside. Hardwick's kick relieved. Another scrum in tho centre saw Brewin again get the ball out to his backs, but Thomas smothered a pass to Marshall, and a little later kicked out apt centre, Hardwick followed a kick up well, and Grafton holding, were penalised in their own 25. Hardwick made an 'attempt to kick a goal, but the ball was too heavy, and Grafton forced. From the kick-in Wolfgramm made a good run to centre for Grafton, but held on too long. From centre Armstrong got possession, and sent to Hardwipck, to Twiname, who centred in Grafton's 25. Brewin marked and sent the ball- to centre, and play was taken to the maroons' 25. The spell ended:— Grafton ~ 3 Parnell ...... 3 Just after turning round Hogan got xsssession and passed to Armstrong, the after sending out to Twiname, who ;ook a bad pass, and the ball was sent mt near the corner. Play was taken ;o the other side of the field, where Franks marked. Magee took a kick at roal without success, and Harper sent 1. long kick up the field, and Grafton jot into Parnell's territory. Hogan ;aved and kicked out at quarter-way. ?rom a scrum Brewin passed out to Handy, the latter failing to make any ground. Grafton were penalised for off;ide,'and an exchange of long kicks took ilace, to find the ball out near centre. ?rom the line out Rhodes made a dash vitli the leather at his foot, but got off>ide, and the ball was sent out at «ntre, -where play stayed some time. Ham was falling at this stage and made he ball very slippery, so that good passng was out of the question. From a icrum the ball was got out by Brewin and :ieked across the field. Twiname made l rush for it, but spoilt by knocking on. logan a minute later sent it to the black md whites' territory. Armstrong got lossession and sent to Twiname, who 'eturned to Armstrong. A scrum took place on Grafton's line, and Parnell ooked like scoring, but a hard kick was breed by Wolfgramm. Play stayed in he black and whites' 25, and Thomas jetting possession passed to Hardwick. .Tie latter made a beautiful run and caried the oval hear the black and whites' ;oal. He dropped the ball there, and kuir snapped it up. Eventually tho ia.ll went to Schofield, who scored in ; good position. Hardwick's kick was a ailure. Parnell 6 Grafton 3 Parnell continued to press and, being ;iven a free for obstruction, Thomas uade an unsuccessful kick, and Grafon forced. The change round was made vith the maroons in Grafton's terriory. The maroons pressed hard, but day was returned to centre, where it tayed for a considerable time. Grafton vere penalised for off-side play, and the tail was taken to Parnell's end, but was eturned to centre. In the closing stages jchofield followed up a kick and took a ligh bounce. There was nothing to
