MEETINGS.

MISSIONARY PAGEANT. St. Sepulchre's Parish Hall was crowded last evening, when a missionary pageant was given In aid of the funds of the Maori Mission, and Mission to Seamen. Before the pageant commenced short addresses were given by the Vicar (Rev. H. Reeve) and Mr A. P. Cowie, sailors' mis-ioner. The pageant, which was carried out under the direction of Miss McCormick, consisted of live scenes, showing a children's Christmas Party, Pageant of the Nations, Roman Slave Market, and the Grand Tableau. The story unfolded was an appeal for help for the missions; and -was beautifully- presented. An excellent orchestra rendered 6uitable music. WATTEMATA 'CRICKET CLUB'S SOCIAL. The first annual social of .the Wartemata .District Cricket Club (which embraces an amalgamation of the former iNorthcote, Birkenhead and Mayfleld Cricket Clubs) was •held in the -.Northcote Hall last night, when there was a large attendance, thoroughly representative of the surrounding districts. IThe function proved thoroughly enjoyable, iand, the committee—Messrs _\ Brown, A. Golden, P. J. Melville, N. Cavaye, A. Clow, C. Moller and E. J. Tremain (secretary) — are to 'be complimented upon the pronounced success of the function. The hall was tastefully decorated, while the manner in ■which the supper tables were arranged by ■Mesdames A. Golden and Hurley called •forth special commendation. An enjoyable dance programme was gone through -till the early hours of the morning, the music being supplied by Mcllveen's band; while the M.C.'s were Messrs N. Cavaye and C Moller. During the evening the president of ■the club (Mr 03. V. Miller) presented the prizes won last season, as follows: First junior team: _fr Ale_. Riddell, best batting average; Mr Chas. Arblaster, best howling average. Second junior team: Mr Thos. Hurley, .best batting average; Mr Jas. P. McPhail, best bowling average. Third junior team: Jlr >H. Oracle, best fetting average; Mr T. Satchell, best bowling average; while an additional trophy was awarded to Mr E. Edmonds for bowling. At the request of the members of the old Northcote Cricket Club, the Mayor of Northcote (Mr >H. Cadness) presented Mr P. J: Melville with _ dressing-case, in appreciation of his services while secretary ito that club. IBIBKENHEAD WESLEY GUJLDi i A meeting of the Birkenhead Wesley Guild was held last evening in the Zion Hill School, there being a large attendance of members and friends. The Rev. T. <J. Carr occupied the chair, and the Rev. Gittos gave an interesting and instructive address on the early life and customs of the Maoris. The rev. gentleman related many amusing incidents of his. experiences in connection with his mission amongst the Maoris. A solo by Miss Millie Carr was much appreciated. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Gittos for his address. (HOCKEY SOCIALS. The Arawa Hockey Club held their first "•At home" in Waite's Hall, Mt. Eden, last night. Over 30 couples were present, and dancing was kept up until an early hour this morning to the strains of Meredith's orchestra. The supper .tables were daintily laid out, and decorated with the club's colours. The All-Red Hockey Club held a musical evening on Thursday in Buchanan|s Tea •Rooms, Sy_londs-street, about 60 guests 'being present. Mr Geo. Court, jun., acted as chairman. A large and varied programme of musical and other items was rendered, and much appreciated. During the evening a presentation was made to one. of the club's prominent members, Miss Winnie Syron, iwho is leaving for her home at Westport, the gift being in the shape of a valnable rug and travelling bag. The Hinemoa Hockey Club hold an "At home" ln Waite's Hall, Mt. tEden, on Monday night. OTAHUHU ROAD BOARD. '• : " The Otahnhu Road Board held its ordinary fortnightly meeting on Thursday evening. There were present: The chairman (Mr J. Todd) and Messrs Graham, Hayward and Llppiatt. One tender only—viz., from Messrs McAnulty and Miller—was received for a contract for the Board's carting for three years from June 24th, 1910. The following were the prices quoted: Road scoria, 1/10 per cubic yard; fine scoria, 1/11; scoria stones, 1/6; scoria spauls, 2/6; blue metal from station, 1/6; two-horse teams, 20/ per day; one-horse teams, 16/. Messrs McAnulty and Miller's tender was unanimously accepted. The monthly report of Mr R. Grieve (sanitary inspector) .was received, jsivmg a satisfactory account of the healthi of the district. The secretary of the Manukau County Road Boards' Association wrote .asking the Board to send representatives to the meeting of the Association- on the 16th inst.' It .was resolved that Mr J. Brady, who had ably represented the Board on previous occasions( should again be asked to j attend. It was also thought desirable that the chairman should be present if possible. ! A letter was ' -received •from the clerk of 'the Ellerslie Town Board, stating, in ani swer to inquiries, that the ramped approach to the railway crossing at the Ellerslie station had been erected entirely at Government expense. Mr Llppiatt referred to the frequency •with which the -train booked to leave Otahuhu at 1.18 p.m. is behind its time; so much so as to miss the train for •Auckland _t Penrose Junction, 'thus delaying passengers and causing much anconveni : ence to business men. It was resolved that strong representations be made to the Department on the matter.
